FLEXIBLE / ROLLING / GENERATIVE WORKSHOP WITH ELIZABETH GAFFNEY

Level: Advanced

Wednesday Evenings 6-8:30 pm ET on Zoom

1/14/26 - 5/22/26 (skips: 2/11, 3/18, 4/1)

Monday & Friday morning co-writing, prompts and office hours, or by arrangement

5 weeks $650

10 weeks $1200

$15 weeks $1650

Single add-on weeks $145

This class is ROLLING & FLEXIBLE, meaning you can start anytime in the 4 month run, chose how many weeks you want to take part and skip weeks on fairly short notice. You pay only for the number of weeks you plan to participate. If life prevents you from getting there, you can make it up any week that’s not overbooked.

Each week will be centered on the Wednesday evening workshop where we’ll discuss a craft topic and the writers can share work and discuss their projects. Monday and Friday office hours will generally occur before noon ET but can be adapted to the group’s schedules and to accommodate West Coast and other time zones. If you can’t come to both office hours, it’s no problem. Come to one, or just to the Wednesday session. If you can’t make the Wednesday but still want to sign up for accountability purposes, you can always come only to the office hours and listen to the recording. (You can share your work at office hours.) It’s flexible.

The Engines of Narrative series of online narrative prose workshops are offered several times a year in various iterations. All are suitable for fiction or creative nonfiction writers and writers working in long or short form. They can be taken multiple times.

EON provides a supportive yet challenging community and an ongoing conversation for the purpose of helping each writer develop, finish or revise a manuscript. All workshops and events of the 24-Hour Room are governed by our community ethos of Radical Editorial Empathy.

In addition to the main weekly meeting, EON offers:

•Discussion of Craft Topics tailored to the specific interests of the writers enrolled

•Supportive Feedback from the Workshop Leader

Manuscript-Based EON sessions are organized much like traditional writing workshops, where writers exchange manuscripts, read and one another’s work and discuss literary craft, plus occasional outside readings and conversations about the business of publishing.

Generative EON sessions include optional prompts tailored to individual writer’s projects, co-writing and office hour meetings in addition to the weekly workshop. Your goal should be to write every day during the session, to post this work to the bulletin board and to share a short passage of your week’s writing in workshop out-loud for group discussion. There is no requirement to read other writers' work in advance or make written comments. Each writer will receive copious verbal and brief written feedback from the workshop leader each week, including editorial guidance. We’ll also spend time discussing each writer’s project in terms of its larger structure and whatever roadblocks the writer may be encountering.
