From April to December 2021, the 24-Hour Room will read Moby-Dick from stem to stern, in 197 short passages, at the beginning of our hosted weekday Studio Sessions. The Moby-Dick Slow Marathon is part of the Flow Reading program in The 24-Hour Room's Studio, which is primarily a silent virtual workspace. Please repair to the Lounge for any discussion after the readings. And if you're ever at work in the Studio and would prefer not to hear the Flow Reading, simply turn off your volume.
A calendar of readings appears below. The page numbers below refer to the Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition with a foreword by Nathaniel Philbrick. You can also read along in your own edition using the chapter list and line endings from the Calendar, read directly from the READINGS & DISCUSSION page on the member site (where the daily passage will be posted each morning), or get Moby-Dick on Project Gutenberg (where you can navigate the chapters by editing the three final digits in the url).
Members are invited to sign up to give the daily reading at any Studio Session, and we'll be putting out calls for readers on certain days this summer when the 24H staff plan to be off grid, exploring the watery part of the world, camping, or just sleeping in.
Discussion will occur in the comments below each the day's passage on the READINGS & DISCUSSION page, spontaneously in the Lounge anytime and at periodic Gams in the Lounge, which will be announced.
